The Mennonites, after two centuries of bitter persecution in Central Europe, by the 1800's were old hands at pioneering in the New World.
Many, in search of peace, left Switzerland for Pennsylvania and then Southern Ontario.
Today the countryside throughout the Counties of Waterloo, Perth and Wellington is scattered with hundreds of farms.
The simplicity of these People can be admired from the architecture of the farms, the lay-out of the fields, the cemeteries, the almost deserted gravel roads, the transportation, the way the land is worked, their dressing and how dinner is made.
Driving through this picturesque countryside one almost feels out of place.
